In the end, having some knowledge of this resort helped ease my Mexico fears.  We have a few friends that have gone on their honeymoon here and absolutely loved it as well as a few friends that have gone to their friends’ wedding, including Dixie.

We booked our flights with American Airlines, they offer direct service from DFW airport to Cancun.  From there we have arrangements for a private transfer to and from the resort.  We have booked 7 nights at the resort, where we plan on spending our entire time on the resort property.  There is plenty to do there, and not to do, if we please as well.  We booked a swim-out suite, which basically means we have a private swimming area out the porch of our suite.  We’ve also discussed some other activities while we’re there.  Dixie has expressed an interest to go parasailing.  The resort is all-inclusive, which includes all alcohol and meals from 8 different restaurants and 24-hour room service.

This resort offered us a free Honeymoon package.  They do ask for proof of the recent marriage, so we have to remember to make a copy of our wedding certificate.  The Honeymoon Package includes a few nice things: Private romantic candle light dinner on the beach for the couple, chilled bottle of champagne delivered to your room upon arrival, a couples 1/2 hour massage lesson, special in room towel arrangement daily, bathrobes for use during stay.

We’re really excited!  I don’t think we’ve been on a real vacation since Dixie and I went to Las Vegas for 4 days back in March of 2008, so we’re ready!

What an undertaking!  It’s a lot of fun, but a little overwhelming to keep track of everything we selected.  Deciding on the style or brand to register for is always a talking point.  At the stores there’s usually about a 30 minute meeting of the minds before we start.  A registry specialist meets with us.  They will let us know of the offers and advantages with registering with them.  They’ll also have some registering recommendations and tips.  Then to the fun part the bar code scanner and the how to use the bar code scanner tutorial.

From a guy that works in the bar code tracking world, Bed Bath, and Beyond had the easier scanner to use.  At Dillard’s after each scan I had to enter a quantity and push enter.  At BB&B I could just scan the bar code the number of times that I wanted the item, and that was it.  There was a way to enter a quantity, but scanning the bar code multiple times was way easier.

I think we may still add a hardware store, probably Lowe’s later this week.  All in all it was a lot of fun, and by the end of the day dinner and a movie became dinner and dessert at the cheesecake factory.
